Atlanta: Past, Present, and Future
Before we creating our model, we had to base our model of Atlanta on an existing model. We decided to create our model based on the urban realms model. In our model, the central business district is Atlanta and the edge cities are cities that surround Atlanta such as Buckhead and Norcross.

Urban Realms Model

Picture
  • Created by James E. Vance Jr. in 1960
  • Vance came up with the model when observing the San Francisco Bay area.
  • Cities based on the urban realms are so large that some of them have exurbs. Exurbs are suburbs that are so far away from the city that they can't be called suburbs anymore.
  • Each urban realm depends on four factors:
-The overall size of the metropolitan area

-The amount of economic activity in each urban realm
-The topography and major land features
-The internal accessibility of each realm for daily economic functions    and economic functions
